You’ve listened to the podcasts, bookmarked the articles, read the guides, and scoured the internet for hours; eager to implement their valuable insights into your life. Yet, despite your motivation for change, some of those well-intentioned strategies are falling short or not resonating. If this sounds familiar, rest assured, I'm here to help. I'm therapist and owner of Modern Day Therapy. I specialize in women’s issues, trauma, domestic violence, family issues, depression, anxiety, mood and personality disorders. I pay particular attention to those who are neurodivergent, gifted and have other neuropsychological concerns such as ADHD, ASD, LD, and addictive/compulsive disorders.
My approach is centered around you, meaning I am committed to working collaboratively, developing a plan that helps you thrive and is based on YOUR unique needs via traditional therapy, life coaching, holistic approaches and animal therapy with my adorable therapy dog, Levi.
While I'm a great listener, I also guide you in implementing actionable steps to address immediate needs. I bring a touch of irreverent humor, pop culture analogies, and a playful yet deeply empathetic approach to the work of healing. I look forward to helping you create the change desired to feel more confident, connected, and productive in your life.
I’m Kendra Johnson, a licensed clinical social worker. My passions are holistic practice, trauma informed treatment, healing from racial trauma, and social justice. I believe that healing is possible for everyone and that we are all connected. My goal is to create a space where you can bring your whole self and practice vulnerability, while also being challenged to try something new. One of the most important things about achieving your mental health goals is knowing how to love, trust, and accept yourself for who you are. My areas of expertise are effective brief treatment interventions, training, group facilitation, life transitions/change, life coaching, anxiety, and reducing traumatic stress responses.
My clinical style is to use evidenced based modalities, tailored to the specific needs of each individual person. We can’t change the fact that you’ve had to experience harmful, dangerous, or painful things, but we can explore how you can live without these experiences controlling your life. Additionally, if you are wanting to explore therapy through a faith-based lens, I am more than comfortable helping.
When I am not working with individuals, I teach classes for the IUPUI School of Social Work, co-own MK-TI Social Work Consulting, and am co-founder of Creating Resources and Opportunities Women Need non-profit organization. In my free time, I am a youth coordinator at church and enjoy spending time with family. As a recent empty nester, I love “me time” and “girl time”, and traveling is my self-care.
I’m Monique Johnson, a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). My passion is social justice, community, and trauma informed treatment and healing. I believe that they are all connected. You can expect to be heard and valued. The goal is to create a safe space where you can bring your whole self and practice vulnerability, while also being challenged to try new things for growth. My clinical perspective is a holistic approach to healing trauma. We can’t change the fact that you have experienced harm and pain, but we can address how you can live without those experiences controlling your life. I believe in not only healing from the past, but also building protective factors to support any future highly stressful and toxic situations.
Along with therapy, I am also a university professor, co-owner of MK-TI Social Work Consulting LLP, and a founder of Creating Resources and Opportunities Women Need (C.R.O.W.N.) nonprofit organization. I highly enjoy consulting, coaching, and training clinicians and future social workers. I am very passionate about developing sustainable programs. I have professional experience working in hospitals, non-profit organizations, with diverse populations, and legal systems.
Outside of work, I have a son and a dog that I dedicate my time to. I love traveling, reading, watching movies, and linking with friends. I am very active in a church congregation and credit all of my success to the Lord.
As a therapist, I believe that every problem can be solved, but I am not here to “fix” you. Balancing work, relationships, and family can be extremely difficult (adulting is rough, am I right?), and I am here to help individuals learn how to manage all life’s challenges in a more
effective and positive way. I believe that every person has the ability to change and grow, and that acceptance, forgiveness, and compassion are key to addressing and handling life. Through developing greater self-awareness and confidence to understand the core of what makes you, you, I believe that you can set and achieve goals that promote better mental health and a fuller, more enriched life. I use an integrative approach in my practice. I believe that a client’s self-awareness, strengths, and choices are key in developing independence, solutions, and understanding. For this reason, my techniques are drawn from Art Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solutions-Focused Therapy, Multicultural Therapy, Adlerian Therapy, and other therapy disciplines that fit the needs of the client as necessary. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults dealing with ADHD, behavioral problems, depression, anxiety, and addictions.
Although I am trained in traditional talk therapy, I am also trained in art therapy. I believe that a greater self-awareness can be unlocked through art therapy, as it taps into the unconscious and conscious mind, allowing for expression of both nonverbal and verbal communication of ideas, thoughts, and feelings. I believe everyone is an artist. You do not have to be “good” at art to engage in art therapy. I will never analyze or assign meaning to your art- you are the artist and its voice. Art therapy provides another channel of communication that words may fail to uncover.
In my free time, I love to read, go on hikes, create art, and binge watch my guilty pleasure shows. I am a proud plant parent, board game enthusiast, and obscure trivia savant. One of my favorite things about being human is being able to suck at something new, so feel free to ask me about my newest fixation (I am currently happily average at yoga, rollerblading, standup comedy, and bumper pool).
I am working towards my licensure by the state of Indiana as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a Board-Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC), but I can provide services to you as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor-Associate (LMHC-A) and Provisional Art Therapist in the interim. As a new therapist, I am under direct supervision with a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) and a LMHC, ATR-BC to ensure that I am providing ethical care during this time. I look forward to hearing from you!
My name is Maria Taylor. I have a master's degree in social work from Indiana University and a passion for supporting individuals from a variety of backgrounds, life experiences and healing journeys. I am experienced in working alongside individuals in an array of settings to facilitate positive change in their lives and community. My therapeutic background includes working with adults with ADHD, depression, anxiety, PTSD, personality disorders and substance use disorders diagnosis.
Your mental health is a priority and as a therapist it is important for me to create a safe environment to work towards personal growth goals, cope with past traumas and gain skills to work through difficult times and daily stressors. Through a strengths-based and culturally sensitive approach I actively support my clients through their individual journeys. I create a warm, gentle, and affirming environment for each person and believe it is essential to ensure my clients feel their unique story is known, seen, and heard. I will offer empathy and open communication to encourage and challenge you as you are working towards your healing journey.
